The choke is a narrowing of the barrel's muzzle used to provide the shot beam with appropriate coverage and uniformity at a given distance by modeling it, while limiting the spread of the extreme shots.
Beretta Optima-Choke® HP chokes are manufactured from high-strength steel with a nickel alloy plating finish and are fully interchangeable in all Beretta barrels that are threaded for the Optima-Choke® HP.
One of the primary goals in designing the Optima-Choke HP® system was to develop a choke system that could withstand the rigors of intensive use with heavy shot loads while retaining the weight savings and characteristics of the lighter barrel contour of the Optima-Choke. To achieve this, Beretta engineers designed a choke system with a threaded section nominally 10 mm from the muzzle end of the choke found in the Optima-Choke system. This effectively increased wall thickness at the muzzle end, where the greatest degree of constriction and stresses typically occur, without requiring a larger barrel contour.
WARNING: Using Optima HP chokes in Optima firearms (without the HP designation) may cause serious damage to the chokes or barrel during firing.
